It's Your Property, Protect It

You invested a lot of talent and hard work into an invention. The last thing you want is for someone to literally steal your idea. Get the help you need with filing for patent, trademark, and copyright protection right here.

JONATHAN RIGDON SMITH J.D., P.C. is the owner and sole practitioner in the firm.
He holds a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Virginia and a law degree (Juris Doctor) from Florida Coastal School of Law. After having practiced engineering in industry for 24 years, Mr. Smith formed Rigdon Engineering in Atlanta in 1993 to help inventors design and prototype their inventions. Mr. Smith became interested in patent law as a result of working with patent agents on his own inventions from 1991 to 2000, and obtained registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a patent agent himself in August of 2000.
Mr. Smith is now an attorney admitted to practice in Georgia and Florida, and he is a member of the federal bar in the Southern District of Georgia and the Eastern District of Texas.
He is assisted at the office by Mrs. Melinda Martin, Notary Public.
He continues to support inventors with mechanical drawing and technical development in addition to patenting.
An issued patent allows the patent holder to exclude others from making, using, or selling a particular invention or design. Three types of patents can be obtained from the U.S. Patent Office including Utility Patents, Design Patents, and Plant Patents. Check out the FAQ page to learn more.
A Trademark provides an identity for its owner in a particular marketplace and can comprise any symbol, name, catchphrase, design or sound which differentiates the trademark owner’s goods from the goods of a competitor in that marketplace. Check out the FAQ page to learn more.
Copyright protection is applicable to original published or unpublished works of any type which are fixed in a tangible form, for example a novel, a sound or video recording, or a computer program. Check out the FAQ page to learn more.
